About Centre for Solutions Journalism

Promoting Human Rights Through Solutions Journalism

Our Story

The Centre for Solutions Journalism was founded with a clear purpose: to amplify voices of the marginalised, to break barriers to enjoyment of human rights, and create lasting change through the power of advocacy, social and behavioural change communication, key stakeholder engagement, and community empowerment.

Championing human rights and gender equality, the Centre for Solutions Journalism has established itself as Malawi’s trailblazing human rights media organisation making waves in the fight for a just and inclusive society.

Driven by a steadfast commitment to empowering marginalised communities and advancing gender equality, sexual and reproductive health rights and democracy, this dynamic organisation is redefining the power of storytelling to drive meaningful and lasting change.

The Centre advocates for human rights and practices journalism that goes beyond simply reporting problems, by highlighting solutions and positive change.

Our approach combines solutions journalism with advocacy, civic education, and community engagement to create comprehensive campaigns that drive real impact. We work at the intersection of media and human rights.

Our work is grounded in the principle that every person deserves dignity, respect, and access to their fundamental rights.

Our Vision

We envision a Malawi nation where all the people, regardless of gender, background, or identity, thrive in a society that honours and protects human rights.

Our Mission

Together, we should create a society where every citizen including women and girls, men and boys, the marginalized and the minority, not only dreams of justice, dignity and equality but lives it every day.

Our Approach

• Media & Communication Utilisation: Through the transformative power of social and behavioural change communication, we illuminate stories of resilience and human rights abuses to foster understanding, and ignite actions that catalyse lasting change.

• Key Stakeholder Engagement: Through strategic engagement with key stakeholders, we advocate for policy and legal reforms on human rights issues.

• Advocacy: Through partnerships, collaboration, advocacy and civic education, we empower communities with skills and knowledge on how to claim and enjoy their human rights and access services.

• Capacity Building: Through training, we empower various stakeholders including professionals to enhance service delivery by respecting human rights in their work.
