Malawi's Parliamentary Health Committee Chairperson Anthony Masamba has decried government delay in publication and dissemination of Post Abortion Care Guidelines.
Masamba has been quoted by privately-owned Daily Times as saying that the delay is a breach of the rule of law.
According to Masamba, the Ministry of Health ought to respect the High Court ruling which ordered the government to develop and disseminated Post Abortion Care (PAC) guidelines.
His concern comes amid growing concerns from medical professionals, women and girls that delays in formalizing guidelines is harming patient care and eroding health and human rights protections,.
The absence of formal published PAC Guidelines has left clinicians without a clear standard of care and women and girls requiring the services without guaranteed rights.
The need for the Ministry of Health to revise Post Abortion Care Guicdelines was part of the landmark October 28, 2025 decision by the High Court of Malawi, which explicitly ruled that minor survivors of sexual violence have an automatic right to access safe abortion services under the Gender Equality Act.
