A medical worker has urged the youth in Zomba to increase their use of contraceptives as a practical way to avoid unintended pregnancies.
Ellen Manda, of Likangala Health Centre in the district, said one of the effective ways of reducing unsafe abortions is through the use of contraceptives.
“There is a need to have open conversations about contraception, abortions, and post-abortion care. Through the use of contraception, we can reduce the number of unsafe abortions and improve overall health outcomes for the youth,” she said.
She made the remarks in the area of Group Village Head Chopi during a meeting where Her Liberty and Girls Active Youth Organisation (GAYO) engaged young people on sexual and reproductive health issues, including access to safe abortion.
