Lilongwe, Malawi A human rights activists has urged schools in Malawi to allow pupils with albinism to attend classes while wearing long-sleeved shirts to protect from direct sunlight that fuels skin cancer. Standing Voice Malawi (SVM) country director Boniface Massa told state-run Malawi News Agency (Mana) that it is unfortunate that some schools are not allowing learners with albinism to wear long sleeve uniforms. “We still have communities who are hesitant to comply with sun protection habits as a lot of them complain that when they wear hats, some people laugh at them,” he said. Massa said this early this week during Surgical Camp at Nkhoma Hospital in Lilongwe targeting more than 40 skin cancer patients. MANA
