MINORITY RIGHTS

In Malawi, minority groups face a myriad of challenges. For instance, the criminalization of consensual same-sex conduct creates a pervasive atmosphere of fear and discrimination for LGBTIQ individuals. Sex workers in Malawi also face a critical barriers in accessing fundamental human rights—including healthcare, legal protection, and physical security—due to the criminalization of related activities, pervasive gender-based violence, and severe health disparities. Just like, sex workers and members of the LGBTIQ+ community, people with albinism also endure severe challenges, including physical insecurity from ritual attacks, economic exclusion, and high rates of skin cancer. Most minority groups are marginalized, and have to overcome challenges to access to enjoy human rights, employment, education, and essential healthcare.

Through implementation of several projects on LGBTIQ+, sex work, the elderly rights and disability issues, CSJ is addressing homophobia, transphobia, discrimination and stigma against sex workers, people with disabilities and the elderly in Malawi.
